Berghof

Hitler’s Berghof (“Mountain Farm”) was at an elevation of 3022 feet, about 9000 feet due east of Berchtesgaden. It was Hitler’s main residence away from Berlin. Located in the Obersalzberg, it was in an area Hitler knew well, having vacationed there before the failed 1923 Putsch. The land around the Berghof was gradually bought up by the Nazi Party, whether the owners wanted to sell or not. Many top Nazis built homes there, eager to be near the Fuehrer and the center of Nazi power.
